How long does it take to build a website?
A custom business website usually takes four to eight weeks from first meeting to launch. Template sites can go live in one to two weeks. The single biggest cause of delay is not development — it is waiting on content, photography and feedback from the client side.
A typical four to six week schedule
- Week 1: discovery, sitemap, and a signed-off scope.
- Week 2: design of the key page types, reviewed with real content in place.
- Weeks 3–4: build, responsive testing, performance tuning.
- Week 5: content loading, technical SEO, analytics, client review.
- Week 6: migration, redirects, launch, monitoring.
What actually causes delays
In our experience it is almost never the code. It is waiting for logo files, product information, staff photographs, or a decision that needs three people in a room.
Projects where the client nominates one decision-maker and blocks out two hours a week finish noticeably faster than projects with a committee.
How to speed yours up
Gather your assets before the project starts: logo in vector format, existing photography, product or service lists, and any legal text you must include.
Agree who signs off. Agree what happens if they are on leave. Those two decisions save more time than any tooling choice.
