How long does SEO take to show results?
Technical SEO fixes can move rankings within two to six weeks. Content-led growth generally shows meaningful movement at around three months and compounds noticeably from six. Local search results — the map pack — often move fastest, sometimes within a month of properly optimising a Google Business Profile.
What moves quickly
Fixing indexing problems, page speed, broken structured data and missing metadata. If a site has real technical faults, correcting them can produce visible change in a few weeks because the content was already there and simply could not compete.
Google Business Profile work is the other quick win for any business with a physical location or defined service area.
What takes longer
Ranking for competitive commercial terms requires content that deserves to rank and enough authority for Google to trust it. Three to six months is normal. Anyone promising page one in thirty days for a competitive term is describing a different outcome to the one you have in mind.
What to measure in the meantime
- Impressions in Search Console — this moves before rankings do.
- Number of queries you appear for at all, not just position.
- Enquiries, attributed to source. This is the only number that pays wages.
